Genarlow Wilson Is A Free Man
After spending two years behind bars for what he says was consensual sex with another teenager at a New Year’s Eve party in 2003, Genarlow Wilson can finally celebrate his freedom.
Wilson was released from Burruss Correctional Training Center in Forsyth, Georgia on Friday afternoon. His release came hours after the Georgia Supreme Court narrowly found in a 4-3 split that his 10 year sentence was “cruel and unusual punishment.”
Since Wilson’s conviction, similar crimes have now been re-categorized as misdemeanors.
Wilson was 17 years old when he had what has been characterized as consensual oral sex with a 15 year old girl. The incident was videotaped and he was convicted of felony aggravated child molestation, a conviction which called for a mandatory 10 year prison sentence. He was acquitted of the rape of another teen girl at the party.
Now that he is out of prison, Wilson says he now wants to attend college and get on with his life.

Genarlow Wilson is not the innocent kid who got caught up in the system that he has been portrayed to be. He and his buddies got a video camera and plenty of booze with the obvious intent to film the girls subjugating themselves to an orgy.
While not technically illegal, getting a girl drunk to lower her inhibitions is ethically rape. Wilson was only found innocent because the jury could not find, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the girl he was charged with raping was too drunk to without consent.
The Georgia Supreme Court was correct in its ruling due to Wilson’s conviction on only the child molestation charge, but let’s not paint this thug (hopefully now reformed) as anything more than he was at the time.
