NFL Star Michael Vick Major Player in Illegal Dog Fighting

ESPN reports that Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, who’s had criminal problems since his days at Virginia Tech, is a major player in the high stakes world of dog fighting. According to a confidential source, Vick is known as one of “the big boys” in illegal dog fighting, wagering up to $30,000 to $40,000 at a time.

In April authorities raided Vick’s house in Virginia and reportedly found, among other things, 66 dogs (mostly pit bulls), a dog-fighting pit, bloodstained carpets, and dog fighting equipment. Vick has denied any knowledge of dog fighting at his property. He has yet to be charged with a crime, but questions remain.

Dog fighting is a felony in every state, except Wyoming and Idaho. Nonetheless, the Humane Society estimates that between 20,000 and 40,000 people take part in this cruel and illegal activity.
