Man Pleads Guilty to Murder After 20 Year Battle to Win New Trial
George Franklin, who fought the Ohio justice system for 20 years, finally got a new murder trial, then pled guilty. After finally winning a new trial, Franklin guaranteed he would not be returned to death row by pleading guilty to the murder.
Both prosecutors and Franklin decided a plea, disallowing the death penalty, was in their best interests. The appellate court ordered a new trial after they overturned Franklin’s conviction due to mistakes made during the trial.
